Welcome to Havard & Havard Antiques, Wales

Andrew Douglas Forbes

Andrew is a fine Welsh painter whose work reflects his love of all things Welsh.

He is also a Royal Academy of Music trained international tenor; he divides his time between Wales, London & Italy.

Andrew has developed his love of things Welsh and has incorporated some pieces of our furniture into some of his latest works; " I have been combining my love of antiques and art, the painting of antiques speaks deeper and further the more they are explored."

"Expressing Welshness is difficult, in the sense that one can fall into the trap of 'dingy' or 'twee'. I try to look further and deeper to find a fresh approach. The simplicty of line of Welsh Things draws me to explore the superb sculptural quality and natural accord of 'line', "

Having decided that his work is best suited to a less gallery like space we have acquired some special pieces for this exhibition

The exhibition is now over. However,we wre so pleased with the response, we will continue to have a selection of Andrews paintings at the shop.We are also planning the next exhibition in the autumn. ..........datesand details will be posted here.

This quite extraordinary primitive Stick back chair is such a quirky piece that it brings a smile to the face., we have named it The Garden Gate Chair. Made of ash & oak with traces of green paint, it has a wonderful crusty surface. Probably from the West Country and dates from the late 18th /early 19th century.

£280.00

A Victorian Style Armchair; from the collection of hand made, British, wrought iron Garden Furniture.

Our stock reflects our own rather varied tastes. We have a particular love of Welsh country furniture. The majority of the Welsh pieces that we stock date mainly from the mid 18th through to the mid 19th century. Welsh country furniture is an important part of our history and heritage, each piece is utterly individual reflecting the hand of its maker. We are especially passionate about pieces that have really good colour and patina.

As you can see we also stock other styles of furniture including mahogany, rosewood and walnut, along with the occasional painted and gilded piece; complemented by decorative and interesting objects.

Samplers, brass candlesticks, silver, cushions, paintings, clocks, mirrors, rugs, drinking glasses, maps, and pottery are some of the many objects that we have in the shop.

Items can be delivered to your door anywhere in the world, please contact us for a quotation. We are very proud of our little shop and hope that you will come and visit us here, but in the meantime please have a wander around our web site.

Should you like the look of something please contact us, we would be more than happy to answer any questions that you may have.
